When we landed on the Packet8 website, we were impressed initially by the clean site feel and professional appearance of this Voice Over IP provider.
We liked alot of Packet 8's features, such as Enhanced 911 dialing. In an emergency, dialing 911 is a cinch. You don't have to give the operator your address, as it automatically pops up for the phone operator.
- SofTalk Office: A soft-phone tool to use with your PC, so you can make and receive business calls on your laptop.
- Voicemail to E-mail notification
We feel that this VOIP phone service has alot of perks, making it a good choice for your telecommunication needs. There are also tons of pricing plans here, for both residents and businesses, local and international. Those needing a basic service can opt for the Freedom Unlimited plan, running you $24.99 a month or the Freedom Annual, at $199.00 per year.
This is a bit more than some of their competition's prices, so keep that in mind. Customer support via telephone was good and the wait time only came in at 5 minutes. There is a Packet 8 blog, but finding pricing information proved to be a small challenge. We feel they should receive 4.5 Stars!

Hi -- I am looking for a VoIP carrier that has been around and is well funded. It seems Net2Phone fills the bill and they are runnoing a promo now. Do you have nay info on them?
Packet8 pricing is available from their website http://www.packet8.net/store/shoppingcart/order_plans.aspx?plan=vo
Do the math - Packet8 is REALLY expensive. And, frankly, their customer service is poor. Read their service agreement, they keep your number if you leave! I give them zero stars and don't know why anyone would use them. Check out CallButler www.callbutler.com. CallButler is a much better BUSINESS phone system. It is easy to use yet incredibly powerful. They have a scripting tool called inTELiscript that lets you integrate your phone system with CRM, SFA or other datbases and applications. Their pricing is the best I've found and almost too good to be true. You can either run CallButler yourself or have them host it for you. Best of all, they don't charge you per extension like most hosted PBXs. Keep an eye on these guys!
Packet8 is bad. Their customer service is one of the worst I have ever encountered. I chose them because I was promised my tel. # would be ported from my previous carrier in just a few days, but it took three months. I paid for a year in advance and they charged me for the service for that three months even though my number had not been transferred. Packet8 gave me a temporary number which was useless to me because I had to continue paying my previous carrier at the same to keep my established phone number in use. Essentially they provided only nine months of service while I paid for a year. They REFUSED to satisfy my feeling cheated and overcharged. Even the supervisor, Michelle, at extension 5242, refused to remedy my complaint. I told her I would blog about the poor customer service so others can avoid being mistreated by Packet8. She just didn't care. With this absurd way of treating customers, I predict they won't be offering service for long. If that happened, it's possible new customers would end up paying a year in advance while the company goes belly up, leaving you hanging with having already been billed but no service (like what happened with SunRocket customers).
Good luck all......
Today I found no service on my Packet8 phone. I found the web site down. I found the customer service lines not answered. I back doored my way into their on-line chat room... got connected, asked a simple question (how can I add fax service) and got disconnected.
Conclusion: No access to my account, their staff or tech support, their sales folks, their web site .... and no phone service at my home....so they have gone by the way of SunRocket (sniff). Recommend that all readers STOP payments, dispute existing charges and otherwise steer clear of 8x8 until this is resolved. That is what I am doing.
